A throwback margarita was the perfect way to start!
Looking for a new take on an old favorite led us to Los Reyes Mexican Grill, a relatively new addition to Downtown Clermont. The delectable smell that met us at the door told us we made the right choice! Los Reyes Mexican Grill is located at the corner of Montrose St. and West Ave. Including the outside patio, Los Reyes probably seats about 50 people. It’s in a space that has housed a few restaurants; however, it began life as a cute little single family home. We were seated at a 3 top table with padded metal chairs next to the fireplace in the “living room” and met with the classic chips and salsa. The salsa is homemade and has just the right amount of zing! After some deliberation, I chose a margarita over sangria and shrimp tacos. Hubs chose a Bud Light and Combo #2 – one taco, one burrito, one enchilada, all ground beef for him.
While we waited for our drinks, we had the chance to take in the details and decor, including the colorful mural in the back dining room – partially pictured below. The walls are painted a light grey/blue, making the small space light and airy and welcoming. The whole staff works together to serve patrons and are friendly and helpful in making dining decisions. As always, if you’re trying to choose between options for any part of your meal, I recommend asking the server. They know the best dishes!
My margarita on the rocks was good – a bit of a throwback for me as it had a triple sec base and for the last few years, I’ve generally been drinking “organic” margaritas with a base of lime juice and agave. Good thing it was tasty because the sweet chipotle salsa on my shrimp tacos packed some smoky heat! Yum! Now, I’m a fan of all types of shrimp tacos, from the simple handhelds with only shrimp, onions, and cilantro in corn tortillas to the flour tortillas with semi-fried shrimp atop cool coleslaw. The shrimp tacos at Los Reyes were somewhere in between – grilled shrimp, slices of mango, and red cabbage slaw in a flour tortilla with the aforementioned deliciously spicy sweet chipotle salsa. I really enjoyed them! Side note: I’m not huge on refried beans on their own, but these were outstanding! I ate half on them on the chips!
The highlight of Combo #2 was actually the taco. My husband’s quote: “Best tacos in Clermont!” He was not as enamored with the burrito (“Average.”) or the enchilada, mostly because it was topped with mole sauce which he generally doesn’t prefer. We will definitely be back!
While Los Reyes does have a Facebook page – go Follow it! – they do not have a website, so I have included *some* pictures of the menu below. *There is a short kids menu, too, just not pictured here.
Love San Jose’s? Me, too! Want to support a new small business and still have Tex-Mex Mexican? Me, too! Let’s head to Los Reyes Mexican Grill! See you there!
